Green Island
Our ambition is to make the Isle of Wight the greenest and most sustainable place to film in the UK. We see the vast potential of the Island with it’s quintessentially British countryside and also locations that could be anywhere in the world. We have tremendous examples of architectural periods and styles, The Island’s size makes travelling from location to location easy, quick and with a picturesque drive. Travel is the largest cost of carbon footprint in film production. The Isle of Wight is so close to London and travel between locations never more than 45 mins, we believe our ambition is realistic. Why film abroad when the Isle of Wight is on your doorstep?
We are committed to and believe it’s our responsibility to protect everything that makes this Isle of Wight the spectacular film location that it is. This includes 17 Blue Flag Beaches – Dark Skies – Low Light Pollution – National Trust land and Property – Ancient Woodland – Historic Property – Estuary’s – Chalk Cliffs – Ancient Monuments – Air Quality – ANOB.
75% of the land is specially designated for wildlife and landscape, with rewilding zones, wetland nature reserves, a white tailed sea eagle reintroduction programme and seagrass restoration projects. Therefore all of our client’s are sent the Lobster Locations Green Charter for each job.
We believe that by ensuring sustainability is at the heart of our production values that filming on the Isle of Wight can be a thriving industry for generations to come.
We are all accredited with Albert and work with local green initiatives to provide productions with the practical assistance we can.
The Lobster Locations Green Charter
“Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time.”
― Aliyyah Eniath, The Yard
Lobster Locations loves the Isle of Wight. We are extremely proud that our island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, that large swathes benefit from AONB status and that we have some of the best dark skies in the country. We warmly welcome you to the Island and ask that all productions adopt the following 3 principles, in order that your shoot has the
lowest impact possible:
– Lease, reuse, repair, refurbish and recycle any sets, props, costumes and equipment.
– Keep it local. Please use the island’s resources and materials wherever possible. Not only will this help to minimise any environmental impact, it also helps our lovely local businesses and people.
– Please be mindful of what you dispose of, and how you dispose of it, while you are here.
This is an opportunity to lead by example, and inspire others in the industry to behave in the same way. We have an extensive network of local contacts and would be delighted to help.
Albert provides a lot of detail on environmental sustainability in the film and TV industry, for example see:
